Ingredients

  • 2 extra-firm tofu cutlets

  • Pinch of salt

  • 20 ml soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • A few drops of Tabasco

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • Parsley, to garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the tofu

Wrap the tofu cutlets with absorbent kitchen paper. press them with your hands to squeeze out the excess water, then lay them on the chopping board and put a heavy pan on top of them for a few minutes. Pat them dry and score them on both sides with a knife, like you would for a steak.

Prepare the marinade

In a small bowl or a glass, mix together the soy sauce, maple syrup, paprika, minced garlic, Tabasco, and tomato paste. You will obtain a thick paste.

Marinate the tofu

Transfer the tofu cutlets to a container. Brush them generously with the marinade on all sides. Set aside the leftover marinade. Close with a lid and set aside for 20 minutes.

Cook

Heat the olive oil in a skillet. When it's well hot, add the two cutlets and cook them well until crispy. Take off the heat, transfer to the serving plates, top with the remaining marinade on top. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy hot!
